Merdeka x3!
Yes Malaysia's independence day is just around the corner (tomolo). And if you happen to stumble upon a malaysian blog (just like this one), you will most prolly be read about all the good things about us.
There really isn't just one face to Malaysia, too many colors, shapes, sizes, voices & beliefs. Sounds chaotic doesn't it? But we do have some common ground, this beautiful country.
You see the many different races which reside in Malaysia were brought togather a long time ago for very important reasons that still endure on. Independence, peace & a better life.
Historically, Malaysia is the only country in the world to gain independence thru peaceful negotiations (or so I remember). I suppose when great people put their differences aside & concentrate on the greater good, good things will happen.
Many years down the road and here we are. Still living peacefully togather. Sharing into each others customs & eating each other's food. BUuuuuuurRRPp! Yeap Malaysia have a good birthday.

Great! What do you usually do? Since there are so many people from different backgrounds, there isn't one typical way to celebrate this day? Happy merdeka day!

YAY FOR MALAYSIA!
Malaysians are also known to be fickle... the tempo of our national anthem has been changed twice within the last 5 years and bloody Kadir is wondering why there's confusion to the bleat.. I mean beat :P
Hi AJ,
Just to drop a note. The British handed over the independence of many nations on a silver platter. It was not only Malaysia!
This is because the British, unlike the French, Dutch and the Spanish was a SMART colonial master.
They knew the age of the White Men's Burden was over. So, instead of POLITICALLY controlling their colonies, they opted for economic hegemony.
That's why till today, countries in Kenya, Tanzania, Ghana are still economically dominated by the British (though now more by the States).
Basically, until the 1970s, Malaysia was a British economic hegemony. It was only after the London Raid in 1981 that Malaysian economy was finaly becoming Malaysian-owned!
But until today, some 1/3 of our economy is still owned by foreigners!!!! Thus, our quest for Merdeka lives on after 48 years!
Happy Hari Merdeka!

Happy Merdeka Everyone!
